From the very second the Sussex Bears Wheelchair Basketball team were invited to see the amazing facilities here at the K2 Crawley by the staff of Everyone Active we knew this was a world class wheelchair basketball tournament venue…

The K2 Crawley is no stranger to wheelchair basketball having hosted rounds of the Junior league in the past but has not been able to make wheelchair basketball a regular occurrence here so Everyone Active communities manager Dave Downey called in the Sussex Bears team manager Ricky for a tour of the facilities.

Dave Downey knew that a huge amount of para-athletes start careers in sports after participating in wheelchair basketball so linking up the K2 Crawley with this sport could be life changing for those in Sussex living with a long term condition or anyone that has a life changing injury.

With 3 courts side by side this venue could easily host major UK Playoffs or International competitions… it was by far the best venue for this in Sussex and with the K2 Crawley being so close to Gatwick international airport… Both Sussex Bears and Everyone Active hoped this was a future international Southern hub for the sport.

4000 seat capacity and an in-house events team that was experienced in the spotlight of events on TV, and hosting professional sporting events… and knowing from the 2019 – 2020 season of wheelchair basketball several new playoffs and cup competitions are launching the K2 Crawley is the venue that these playoff Quarter / Semi finals and cup competitions could be located for teams in the Southern half of the UK.

Ricky from the Sussex Bears took a trailer load of sports chairs to deliver a staff training day in wheelchair basketball – ” This venue is perfect for tournaments… let’s get wheelchair basketball players here from the lower leagues in the UK and the professionals from abroad then while they are here we incorporate a tour of everything on offer from the Olympic size pool to the outside tracks ”
